362b Rosie Turton, Yukiko Matsukura + School of Noise

Saturday 27.05.23 [NEW DATE] | 12 – 2pm at St John's Leytonstone, E11
Rosie Turton, Yukiko Matsukura + School of Noise
with Dane Law | tickets - dm362b.eventbrite.co.uk

This afternoon we present musicians pulling, sliding and playing with the perceived boundaries of their instruments, improvising and songwriting.

Plus, there is the chance to be involved in a workshop manipulating instruments and objects and presenting your findings on our stage. Hear and even help us present a study in sound and its infinite possibilities through manipulation of technology old and new.

Rosie Turton was called ‘One To Watch’ by The Guardian and nominated for Jazz FM’s ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year’. Today she presents her most recent sonic explorations into modular synthesis and trombone, a project which came into being during lockdown. With the intent to create music unbound by genre and re-examining the role of the trombone as a solo improviser.

Yukiko Matsukura studied visual and performing arts at Kyoto University of Art and Design. She performed in Jean Cocteau's one-woman play "Voice" as a graduation project, and composed a song for the play. After University she began collaborating with composer, guitarist and pianist Masaru Watanabe. This made her realise that her future was in singing, channelling the inner impulses that brought her to sing into new vocal compositions and improvisations

The School of Noise work with people of all ages encouraging the exploration of sound and music. Sound is everywhere, every sound is telling us a story of something somewhere that's moving. The School of Noise invite you to join them on a journey to discover what those stories might be telling us.

Seeeting the mood and joining the dots between the other performers this week will be Dane Law  - a Leyton based producer whose current output explores sound collage and sampling, computer folk music and semi-algorithmic layered acoustic guitar pieces.

Join out first workshop and perform as part of School of Noise (limited capacity, adv booking needed) - dm362a.eventbrite.co.uk

Further event details: Pay-What-You-Can entry (we suggest £10 adult, children free) in advance or on the door, subject to availability/capacity. An event for all ages. As always with this series we endeavour to make our audience feel as safe, comfortable and welcome as we possibly can.
